Blog Journal #6

Using the Florida State University Schools' website, I found multiple teachers' websites that range from middle school to high school teachers. One website I found was Mrs. Olgar, who is a 6th grade World Geography teacher. She teaches many different types of classes like regular World Geography, advanced World Geography, and African American History. She has her syllabus on her and a calendar for all of her students. She also has a page for each class she teaches and on those pages there are links to the presentations in class and resources the students can use to help them in class. When I start my teaching career, I will create my own website for the parents to use to be able to participate in and out of the classroom. Since I will be teaching elementary school, I will not have that many online assignments that the children will have to do outside of class. So the website will be used mainly for connecting the parents to their children's' learning. Pos...

In class was the first time I ever used Diigo, which is an extension that lets you share links and different articles with groups and others. I don't really like using Diigo because I would rather share links on more social and active platforms like Twitter. However, I did like that Diigo was an add on for Google Chrome and was an easy way to share things. I liked that you can have hashtags that relate to your article, which makes it easier for others to find blogs and articles relating to a certain topic. During my second semester of college all of my classes have to deal with writing; so most of my assignments deal with blog posts, journals, or essays. I enjoy how laid back blogging is because it is a lot easier to write compared to a research paper. I also like how blogging lets you be personal and convey who you are online. Although blogging is a good technic to use as a teacher, I don't feel as I have learned a lot during this blogging process. I used to have my own blog ...

My early experiences using Twitter were very vague at first. I made a profile and posted a few things in middle school, but wasn't quite active. Then in eighth grade, I began to use it quite often and would go on Twitter every other day. I began interacting with my friend's in middle school and followed many famous people online. I became super active into following the MAGcon boys, who were famous vines and I would tweet them all the time. I became a super fan! After my cringey middle school self became less involved in the MAGcon boys, I began to post my own singing videos on twitter. I found it beneficial because I gained the confidence to post my own content of music online and people actually liked it! Twitter will be helpful in my future career because I will be able to follow successful teachers and gain new ideas and resources from my colleges through Twitter. The digital divide can affect student success in schools because si...

The ELA technology standard that I feel most prepared to teach in a classroom would be LAFS.2.SL.2.5, which states “recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media. This standard is focused for 2nd Grade, which is the grade I want to end up teaching when I graduate. This semester I am observing a classroom of fourth graders and I have noticed how much children read in the classroom setting, so I feel like using this standard to address what the key ideas are in a story will be very easy using technology. One ELA technology standard that would require me to have more research on my part would be LAFS.3.SL.2.5, which states the students must “demonstrate fluid reading at an understandable pace, adding visual displays and engaging audio recordings when appropriate to emphasize or enhance certain facts or details.” This seems difficult to get all 3rd graders on the same page of reading out loud because every student i...
