In class was the first time I ever used Diigo, which is an extension that lets you share links and different articles with groups and others. I don't really like using Diigo because I would rather share links on more social and active platforms like Twitter. However, I did like that Diigo was an add on for Google Chrome and was an easy way to share things. I liked that you can have hashtags that relate to your article, which makes it easier for others to find blogs and articles relating to a certain topic.
During my second semester of college all of my classes have to deal with writing; so most of my assignments deal with blog posts, journals, or essays. I enjoy how laid back blogging is because it is a lot easier to write compared to a research paper. I also like how blogging lets you be personal and convey who you are online. Although blogging is a good technic to use as a teacher, I don't feel as I have learned a lot during this blogging process. I used to have my own blog in high school for one of my English classes, so I learned how to set up a website and post weekly things that are relevant to that class. Taking those skills I had with me in high school to this class has really made this blogging process quite easy.

In the first grade classroom I am observing, my teacher uses a timer for every assignment she gives to her kids. Using a timer in the classroom is very beneficial because it keeps your students on task and less distracted. So the web 2.0 tool that I would use in my own classroom would be an online timer. Online they have many different timers that you can choose from like just countdowns, clocks, or bombs. I decided to choose the hourglass clock because it is visually pleasing for the students. The website does have a few ad pop ups, but it is very easy to navigate when putting in the time wanted. When the time runs out the timer makes a ringing noise so the students would know when to be done with an assignment. Here is the link to the Online Hourglass Timer!
Hi Sam!
ReplyDeleteI really like the Hourglass tool. It's really easy to use and the design in simple. The design in friendly enough that it is not an intimidating timer. I think this would be a great tool to keep students focused.
Thanks for the feedback! I also thought using the hourglass was better for the students because it wouldn't startle them but also keep them on track! Unlike the ticking bomb that would always make them jump!
DeleteThe timer is such a cool tool! It really gives the students a visual during testing so that they can keep track of themselves!
