What influences teachers and students to use technology in the classroom?

Because technology has become a part of everyone's everyday lives, it is almost a given to teach the younger generation how to use these new resources. When kids are handed a computer or a smartphone their eyes instantly light up, so if a teacher wants to add excitement in the classroom; they should turn to technology. In addition to making learning fun for the students, technology has also given schools so much more information that they didn't have in the past. Students used to have to go to the library and search through endless rows of shelfs to find the right book for their research paper. Nowadays all of the information is right at their fingertips. Technology has given students and teachers a new way to learn and the real world has really influenced what happens in the classroom.

Reflection on ISTE standards

A few of these ISTE standards for students seemed like common sense to me. Don't post things online that you wouldn't want your boss to see or use technology as a resource. The sad part of today's generation is a lot of kids forget that everything you post online could effect your future, so I believe that Digital Citizen is the most important standard to meet up to as a student. Because at the end of the day an employer will not accept your application because of something you posted in your younger years (no matter how long ago it was).  I feel as Global Collaborator is out of my current skill set because I stick to following my friends and only people I know on Twitter or Instagram rather than expanding my knowledge and connecting with those who have different backgrounds that me.

Digital Native Reflection

I agree with the "digital native" label that my generation has been given because we have constantly been surrounded by technology as it is almost everyone's second home. Whether it be browsing on social media or playing video games, we all have found comfort in technology. While my generation has their noses stuck in their phones, older generations would just communicate with each other face to face. The older generation rarely uses technology for fun as much as the younger generation because they didn't grow up in a world solely focused on social media. Since we use technology for fun, we are usually more tech savy than our teachers. I've had times where I got frustrated that my teacher didn't know how to go through a PowerPoint presentation or open a web page. But I know I shouldn't judge a teacher based on how they use technology because I know when I become a teacher the next generation is going to know more about new programs and how to access the Internet faster.

ISTE Computational Thinker Resource

The standard that I chose helps children develop their problem solving skills with using technology methods; so I decided to find a website that had many different math games because this deals with algorithmic thinking. When I was in elementary and middle school I loved when we would go to the computer lab and get to choose what games we play because it gave me freedom to have fun while learning. I feel like finding a website that has a lot to choose from makes this process of Computational Thinking fun for the kids who don't like problem- solving or Math in general. Also this website offers Preschool to 5th grade, so as the students advances the games do as well! I have attached the link below to the website I found that has many different games that your students can play! Math Games
