Blog Journal #2

I have to say I am a Google Docs lover, so I do not spend a lot of my time anymore using Microsoft Word. However when I was younger I learned how to use the software in one of my computer classes and I thought it was the coolest program to exist besides Webkinz. In my third grade class, I remember being excited to go to my computer class just because I would play typing games and learn how to add photos onto Microsoft Word. Now if I use Microsoft Word, I am quite confused because I changed my platform to Google Docs. I didn't know that Office 365 existed and I was reassured knowing that my files would be saved on my Google Drive. So I know that many of my teachers are more familiar with Microsoft Word because they use it to create syllabuses and different homework assignments. In highschool, many of my teachers stressed to us the idea of plagiarism is never a good idea and we would be failures in life if we ever copied someone else’s information and made it our own. What influences teachers and students to use technology in the classroom? Because technology has become a part of everyone's everyday lives, it is almost a given to teach the younger generation how to use these new resources. When kids are handed a computer or a smartphone their eyes instantly light up, so if a teacher wants to add excitement in the classroom; they should turn to technology. In addition to making learning fun for the students, technology has also given schools so much more information that they didn't have in the past. Students used to have to go to the library and search through endless rows of shelfs to find the right book for their research paper. Nowadays all of the information is right at their fingertips. Technology has given students and teachers a new way to learn and the real world has really influenced what happens in the classroom. Reflection on ISTE standards A few of these ISTE standards for students seemed like common sense to me....

ISTE Computational Thinker Resource

The standard that I chose helps children develop their problem solving skills with using technology methods; so I decided to find a website that had many different math games because this deals with algorithmic thinking. When I was in elementary and middle school I loved when we would go to the computer lab and get to choose what games we play because it gave me freedom to have fun while learning. I feel like finding a website that has a lot to choose from makes this process of Computational Thinking fun for the kids who don't like problem- solving or Math in general. Also this website offers Preschool to 5th grade, so as the students advances the games do as well! I have attached the link below to the website I found that has many different games that your students can play! Math Games

First Day of Class

My first major interaction with technology started in my 3rd grade computer class. We learned how to use Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and many other different types of platforms to display information. In high school, I worked for a Social Media Marketing company because I originally wanted to major in communications and advertising. Every day at my job I was learning how to create ads for companies on platforms like Facebook and Snapchat. Also in high school, I used Google Docs twenty- four seven...
